From the recording Here & There
Wonderful Scottish singer Heather Heywood taught Beth this traditional song. When a young man fails to meet a young woman for a tryst, she finds him to ask the reason. He admits he's been courting another lass. With spirit, she deplores his unkindness toward him, and vows, since another lassie has been dancing in her sheen (shoes), she will court another lad. Then she will go by her auld love just as easily as he has gone by her.
